Safety is paramount in all our operations
There is a lot of legislation related to the safety of lifting work and cranes. Cranes must be inspected annually by law. In addition, continuous inspection of machines and lifting equipment must be ensured. The vehicle crane driver must have a professional qualification in the field or its applicable part. Related legislation below, Vna, usage decision 2008. Below is also a safety guide for truck crane drivers.
Infra Ry, Talonrakennusteollisuus ry and Rakennusteollisuus RT ry have collaborated to prepare two guides specifically intended for those commissioning lifting work:
These guides contain useful information to ensure safe lifting work on the construction site.
On construction sites, site operations are also regulated in relation to lifting work. In normal rental operations, the crane and its driver are rented under the supervision of the client, in which case the lifting plan, lifting supervision and any necessary auxiliary labor come from the client. The person responsible for the construction site must inspect the lifting equipment, especially its placement and foundation, before use. For difficult lifts, a separate written lifting work plan must be drawn up if necessary.
Below are legal extracts regarding lifting work, as well as a form for an erection inspection at the construction site.
A signaler, or subordinate, is needed in lifting work when the driver is unable to constantly monitor the movement of the load. Below are instructions for safe work by subordinates, official hand signals in use, and a publication from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration on the selection and safe use of lifting equipment.
